Layout Control
Gala Purity theme has a built-in template control for easy displaying different parts of the website. You can switch on and off up to 7 parts of the template.

On every page you can display news articles (1), news categories (2), sidebar with the sub-navigation of the website (3), search field (4), the list of recently updated articles (5), footer menu (6) and page details (7) consisting of create date, last update, breadcrumbs, title of the page, author, print button and links to previous or next page below the content.
Open any page for edit in admin panel and scroll down to the fields below the content field:

By default all the parts are shown on the page. You can replace "+" with "-" as shown above to hide the parts you would not like to see on this particular page. In combination of 6 different templates you have now a numerous number of different appearances and have pretty much control about your design.
Sure, you would like to replace logo in the left top corner of the page. You will find the original logo with FileZilla on your web space in the directory uploads/icms.info. There is a file named logo.png. Your image should be maximum 207x 80 pixel. Overwrite this file with your custom image and it will be displayed on every page of your website.
Additionally you can replace the rotating images in the header of the website to the right from logo. There are 3 images that are called header1.jpg, header2.jpg and header3.jpg. These images have 600 x 80 pixel. Replace them with your own pictures and they will be shown on every page while randomly rotating.
Later on you can assign an image to one specific page (see Image Manager) and customize copyright notice in the footer area of the layout.

Did you build the page Layout Control or is it a CMS module?

I'm wanting to take my own design and make it work with CMSMS. I rarely use the typical sidebar, header, content, footer look so I'm wondering where a tutorial is that addresses that specific need?

Easy. Just don't include the specific tags in your template. Or download one from here and choose which parts to turn off.
Curious that you say you don't typically use these common components though. Makes me wonder why you require the power of a database driven site at all!

@Paul The layout control is built with standard features of CMS Made Simple. It just a power of Smarty and its integration in CMS Made Simple. You do not need any module or plugin to create layout control yourself.

Yeah, awesome. Just saw it all in the templates. They've certainly come a long way since the ones I developed back in pre 1.0 days. :)

Hi -
THANK YOU so much for this beginner's tutorial. It really helped me out and I was about ready to give up!
Also, your template is fabulous - Very easy to navigate. Thank you!
However, there are a few things that I would like to change... and I am unsure how to make the changes!
First, how can I make the top header (the dark grey one) to be white? And, also, how can I make the logo in the top left bigger than 207x 80 pixel?
Your help would be very much appreciated :)
